Brambles Art Retreat was established in 2003. Peter Davies and Janet Brady met at Liverpool University in 1979. Both had successful careers in London. In 1999 they moved to Devon, they launched their painting retreat at their home in Devon four years later.

There were inspirational views of Naples’ Bay to sketch and paint, from the hotel. Painting trips provided diversity in the ruins of Pompeii, the gardens of Ravello, the churches, and the ancient streets of Positano and Amalfi. Expert tuition was provided by our hosts Janet and Peter. A delightful trip.

As Brambles became more popular Janet and Peter decided to take painters to locations in other countries. They host courses in many exotic locations. In 2022 locations will be just as spectacular as they launch Brambles Art Academy.

Frequently Asked Questions
can I travel to you by train?
Yes, we collect guests from Exeter St Davids train station. We ask you to arrive and depart around 5pm. We charge £30.00 for the return journey.
Do you sell materials?
We have a small amount of paint, brushes, skretchbooks, and pens to buy.
are courses suitable for beginners?
Our courses in Devon are for all levels of painter. we are two tutors and we have small groups that gives plenty of instruction to everyone.
do you provide all the materials?
If you are a beginner, yes, but if you already paint and have some of your own we like you to bring things with you. Paints, brushes, and surfaces on which to work.
Do you have pets?
We have a dog and a cat. We don’t allow guests to bring their dogs to Brambles.
do you cater for special dietary requirements?
Yes we do, (within reason) and with some help with likes and dislikes from the special dietary guest.
