Dates: 10th – 21st April – 11 nights.
We are pleased to be offering another fabulous painting trip in Japan. We are staying in two major cities, Tokyo – 6 nights and Kyoto 5 nights. It is a fabulous opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty and culture of Japan. We spend time sketching and painting their Temples, Shrines, landscapes and cityscapes. We visit the Bamboo forest, and the Inari Tori gate forest. One natural the other man made, both amazing painting subjects.
We have partnered with a company in Tokyo that provides us with an English speaking Japanese’s guide. They are very knowledgeable, adaptable and are with us 24/7.
The fee covers the hotel accommodation, all meals *except lunch, all travel costs except the return journey to the airport. All entrance fees to events on the itinerary. *There are two optional events, the classic tea ceremony and a calligraphy lesson. Two Art tutors available throughout the whole trip, providing tuition, demos and working with you developing bigger work on the two studio days.
*Flights are not included – we recommend flights and provide arrival and departure times to fit with the itinerary. We arrange a pick up on the day of arrival, and help organise the return journey on the departure day.
We are staying in Western style hotels, they provide breakfast, the rooms are fairly small but typical for Japan. The hotels are of a good standard.
We travel around using public transport, trains, the bullet train, buses, tubes, local buses, cable car and boats. A good standard of fitness is required, we walk every day.
Each evening out guide takes us to lovely Japanese restaurants, It’s always fun and they are excited to show us the diversity of the Japanese diet. We can provide a vegetarian diet, although many soups and sauces do contain fish stock. It is quite difficult for a strict vegan to enjoy the Japanese cuisine.
Highlights: Visiting Itchiku Kubotas Kimono museum – sumptuously stunning. Seeing Mount Fuji both times such a Wow moment. The scale of the temples, the beautiful landscapes. Riding the bullet train. How clean the whole country is.
Students work from the 2019 Trip. Watercolour, Acrylic, Mixed Media and Collage.
