For the early bird enthusiasts we are hosting a weekend and five day course at Brambles in February. A few places left!
Kick start your creativity, begin the new year with positive painting practise! We are ready to help you develop your skills, encourage you to try something new, with focused tuition, demonstrations and encouragement. Relax and paint all day long!
Although I love teaching Watercolour I’d fallen out of love with painting in it for myself. Last Summer while teaching in Tuscany I saw two beautiful paintings our host Laura had bought from a favourite local artist that were powerful expressive and dramatic, the spark of interest was re kindled.
While teaching a few weeks ago in Guernsey my host and friend Jane introduced me to two of her favourite watercolourists one Winslow Homer blew my mind. Born in 1836, he was painting at his best in 1873! Wow what a skill in such a time!
The strong use of narrative is great, his colour fabulous and his drawing skills are excellent. Makes me want to get my paints out look at my colours and experiment! Awesome!
An exciting four day citybreak in the beautiful city of Rome!
Wednesday 23rd May – Sunday 27th May.
This will be our third painting and drawing city break. We have chosen Rome for 2018. A city so abundant with historical buildings and places we are spoilt for choice for locations.
As well as fulfilling the personal challenge to capture the sights in paper and paint we indulge in visiting major locations too. To draw the Coluseum after discovering its significance and history only adds weight to a visit, personalising the event and keeping a record of the my journey.
As we put 2017 to bed ……Time to reflect on what a fab year we had painting.
Firstly we hosted two courses at the fabulous “Calamansac” situated on the edge of the Helford River…. what a find that was and such a brilliant location allowing us to really explore Cornwall and all of its fabulous iconic locations. So successful that we are hosting another course at Calamansac in June 2018 and only have a few places left.
“Barcelona” as part of our city break programme we chose Barcelona as our city in 2017. What a beautiful city! It was a pleasure to sketch and paint all around the town. We not only found plenty of time and space to sit and sketch the iconic Gaudi Cathedral we scheduled a visit inside. It was truly amazing! We also visited Gaudi Park, Casa Balto and Les Ramblas.
Our city for 2018 is Rome, the drama of the Colusseum, the elegance of St Peters, the whole city is full of relics and fabulous spaces to sketch and paint. Can’t wait.
“Isle of Skye” didn’t disappoint, no midgees (second year running) weather was good, locations were stunning. Eileen Donan Castle was beautiful and the setting couldn’t have been more picturesque. We took a boat out to a remote loch and sat sketching the Cullins as the clouds whizzed by and the light changed every other minute. Sunsets were glorious, such a fab trip! We are hosting another trip to Skye in 2018 as the landscape is so inspiring its become a “must do” in our planing calendar.
“Tuscany” was truly beautiful. Relaxed, stunning views to paint, fabulous food, lovely hot weather and good painting. We are hosting our third trip in August 2018 and look forward to being spoilt by Laura and Phillipo at their beautiful home Ancora di Chianti.
Finally at “Brambles” we hosted four courses throughout the year, it was lovely to have returning guests join us and to meet new painters too. There are several opportunities to come visit us here in Devon in 2018. It is always a popular venue therefore we highly reccomend you book early.
We have lots of great plans for 2018, and we are most excited about our trip first painting trip to Japan.
It’s a two week painting extravaganza, travelling to Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka. There are many beautiful locations to paint , we have a fabulous schedule. We are very excited about painting Japan in Cherry blossom time. The are two experienced tutorson the trip, available each day to encourage, direct and teach to get the best painting experience in this fascinating country.
We are providing email tutorials, prior to the trip,
on how to be painting ready for this trip.
We have a Japanese guide travelling with us each day.
